Qualifications

Join the Portsmouth Water Finance team as a Finance Assistant and play a key role in supporting the accounts payable and receivable functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring seamless financial operations, accurately recording transactions in the company finance system, and maintaining efficient, timely processes. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide exceptional service to both internal teams and external clients, contributing to the overall success of our finance department.

What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
  • Help maintain customer and purchase ledgers and associated control accounts
  • Manage the end-to-end daily bank reconciliations process, ensuring that all transactions are reconciled daily
  • Manage Daily Cash Transactions in conjunction with the bank reconciliation process improvements where required.
  • Allocate financial transactions and invoices appropriately
  • Develop and operate the credit control process, with appropriate KPIs
  • Manage and document end-to-end 'Open Water' process
  • Support the wider finance team with the month end process
  • Support the financial accounting and controls manager with statutory audit queries where required
  • Post journal entries as required
  • Complete and/or review monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support junior team members with their training and development needs
  • Ensure relevant controls and governance are adhered to and identify any associated risks
What do you need?
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
  • AAT qualified or similar accounting qualification and/or relevant experience
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a fast-growing environment
  • Capable of understanding potentially complex financial transactions
  • An analytical person with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, ensuring issues and risks are raised promptly
  • Organised and able to take ownership of tasks
  • A proactive self-starter, able to work under own initiative
  • Good overall IT proficiency (Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Proficient in operating multiple accounting software and/or systems is desirable
  • Studying towards a professional accounting qualification is desirable
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills are preferred
  • Prior experience with process mapping and improvements is desirable
