Job summary

PVF Scaffolding LTD is seeking a Finance Assistant for an 11-month fixed-term contract with potential for permanency. The role supports accounts payable and receivable, processing invoices, reconciling statements and assisting cash flow management.

The position offers either part-time or full-time hours, with an emphasis on accuracy, confidentiality and strong numerical skills. Proficiency in Excel and accounting software is desirable in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at minimum
  • AAT Level 2 or working towards
  • Experience in finance or accounts administration is preferable

Responsibilities

  • Process supplier and client invoices accurately and within timescales.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and customer payments.
  • Manage weekly supplier payment runs and allocate receipts.
  • Resolve invoice and payment queries with suppliers, clients and internal teams.
  • Support credit control activities and arrange payment plans when required.
  • Conduct credit checks for new and existing customers.
  • Onboard and verify new suppliers ensuring records are accurate.
  • Negotiate payment terms where appropriate.

Finance Assistant at PVF Scaffolding LTD

11-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for a permanent position at the end of the contract, subject to business needs and performance.

Overview

The Finance Assistant is a key member of the Finance Department, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. The role is responsible for providing administrative and bookkeeping support across accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring every financial transaction is processed accurately and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will support effective cash flow management, maintain accurate financial records, monitor payments and outstanding debts and contribute to the efficient day to day operation of the finance function. A high level of accuracy, organisation and confidentiality is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process supplier and client invoices accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Reconcile supplier statements, account balances, and customer payments.
  • Manage weekly supplier payment runs and allocate incoming customer receipts.
  • Resolve invoice and payment queries with suppliers, clients, and internal teams.
  • Support credit control activities, including chasing outstanding payments and arranging payment plans where required.
  • Conduct credit checks for new and existing customers to assess financial risk.
  • Onboard and verify new suppliers, ensuring all records are accurate and compliant.
  • Build positive relationships with suppliers and customers, including negotiating payment terms where appropriate.

In order to be successful in the Finance Assistant role you will need to have strong skills in

  • Be confident on the phone and compose well written emails
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office, or similar applications
  • Experience using an accounting software is desirable but not essential
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to the wider team
  • A proactive approach to problem solving
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Positive and professional attitude

Qualifications

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (or working towards/willing to complete)
  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts administration role
