A leading research facility in Norwich is seeking a Field Technician to support field operations and assist in crop genetics research. The role involves monitoring experiments, maintaining grounds, and operating field equipment. Ideal candidates should possess GCSEs and experience in agriculture.
Applications are invited for a Field Technician position to join the Field Experimentation Team at the John Innes Centre based in Norwich, UK.
The team conducts world-leading field trials across various crops for researchers at the John Innes Centre. The successful candidate will assist scientists in delivering crop genetics research through growing experiments in a commercial farm environment. The team is based at JIC’s state-of-the-art field facility near Bawburgh, Norfolk, adjacent to the 110-hectare Church Farm.
The post holder will support all aspects of field operations, focusing on small-scale, manually maintained experiments. Responsibilities include conducting field patrols to monitor for pests that could damage experiments, and maintaining grounds at the Field Station and Church Farm through mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, weeding (manual and herbicide application).
Applicants should have at least 5 GCSEs A*-C (or equivalent) and prior experience in agriculture or horticulture, with good knowledge of various crops. Essential skills include computer literacy, good communication, and flexibility regarding working hours and weather conditions. Candidates must be willing to operate various field equipment and perform basic field operations, including tractor operation when required.
