Job summary

SMT GB field service engineers are sought to service and repair Volvo Construction Equipment and related machinery across Central Scotland. The role emphasizes diagnosing faults, maintaining uptime and delivering high-quality customer service on customer sites.

Ideal candidates will hold an engineering qualification in plant maintenance or related field, with experience in heavy machinery, strong diagnostic skills and the ability to read technical manuals.

Qualifications

• Formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Mechanics or related discipline.
• Proven experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs or similar equipment.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and service information.
• Experience using diagnostic tools and electronic service systems.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to fault diagnosis.
• Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
• Strong IT skills and confidence using digital reporting systems and mobile technology.
• Commercially aware mindset with focus on delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair Volvo Construction Equipment and associated machinery.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment.
• Identify additional service and repair opportunities and discuss with customers and internal teams.
• Carry out work in line with quotations and time guides; highlight additional work.
• Install software updates and system enhancements when released.
• Complete electronic job cards, reports and timesheets accurately.
• Order and manage parts required for repairs and return parts promptly on completion.
• Support call-out and overtime requirements when required.
• Attend product and systems training to maintain technical competence.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with standards.
