Working as part of a team of experienced engineers and technicians, you'll support the installation, assembly, maintenance, refurbishment and commissioning of large power transformers and associated equipment. You will play a key role in delivering safe and efficient service activities whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for engineers with transferable skills from a range of industrial sectors to develop specialist expertise within the power industry and support critical energy infrastructure projects across the UK.

Please note: This is a highly mobile, field-based role that requires extensive travel throughout the UK. Successful candidates should expect frequent overnight stays away from home, extended periods working on customer sites, and occasional weekend working as part of normal project delivery requirements.

How You'll Make An Impact
  • You'll play a key role within a team of knowledgeable and experienced engineers and technicians undertaking and coordinating service activities on customer sites, whilst maintaining a strong focus on health and safety, quality standards, project schedules and customer satisfaction.
  • Support the installation, assembly and commissioning of large power transformers and associated equipment, including radiators, conservators, cooling systems, pipework, bushings and auxiliary components.
  • Undertake transformer refurbishment projects, routine maintenance activities, inspections and component replacements, identifying issues and supporting technical investigations and recommendations.
  • Carry out oil handling, oil processing, oil filtration and oil sampling activities in accordance with approved procedures and quality requirements.
  • Assist with mechanical checks, equipment inspections, leak detection, pressure testing, torque verification and functional testing activities to ensure equipment is installed and operating correctly.
  • Lead site activities from start to finish under the direction of the Project Manager, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements.
  • Maintain project site documentation, quality records, checklists and service reports, helping to resolve issues on site and providing technical feedback to support continuous improvement activities.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and act as an ambassador for Hitachi Energy whilst identifying potential service opportunities and customer requirements.
  • Apply all safety rules, environmental requirements and safe working practices, whilst proactively identifying hazards and implementing actions to ensure the safety of personnel, equipment and customer assets.
Your Background
  • Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering qualification such as Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, Military Engineering training or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in the installation, assembly, commissioning, maintenance or repair of large industrial, mechanical, electrical or electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with mechanical installations, plant assembly, equipment refurbishment, pipework systems, cooling systems, lifting operations or large engineered equipment would be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, technical documentation and engineering procedures.
  • Experience leading site teams, coordinating subcontractors or supervising engineering activities is desirable.
  • Site safety qualifications such as IPAF, PASMA, CCNSG, CSCS or equivalent would be beneficial, although training will be provided.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Your Attributes
  • Able to work well using your own initiative whilst also being a strong team player who collaborates effectively to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Flexible in your approach to working hours and travel requirements, with the ability to work throughout the UK and respond to customer and project requirements at short notice.
  • Comfortable spending a significant proportion of the year working away from home on customer sites across the UK.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality workmanship.
  • A systematic approach to problem solving with a positive mindset and willingness to learn and develop specialist technical knowledge.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with customers, colleagues and subcontractors.
  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to work effectively in changing site environments and project conditions.
