Job summary

Radnes, part of Bennie Group, is seeking a Field Service Engineer to inspect, service and repair materials handling equipment at customer sites across the UK, delivering safe, high-quality technical support and strong customer relationships. You will perform planned servicing, fault diagnosis, part replacement and accurate reporting while following quality, safety and site procedures.

A full UK driving licence and relevant engineering qualifications are required; a company van and benefits are

Qualifications

  • Relevant engineering experience or qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with safety-focused problem solving.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy; accurate reporting.
  • Excellent communication with customers and colleagues.
  • Able to work independently in the field and manage priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned servicing, preventative maintenance and diagnostics on forklifts and equipment at customer sites.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults and identify repair solutions.
  • Repair or replace faulty parts safely and efficiently to defined standards.
  • Submit accurate job reports, service records and compliance paperwork on time.
  • Coordinate with Service Co-ordinator and Service Manager for planned work and priorities.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships and deliver reliable service.
  • Follow site procedures including health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Develop technical knowledge through training and manufacturer guidance.

Working Hours:

On site working hours are 06:00am to 16:00pm with 30-minute unpaid lunch.

The first 30-minutes of travel each way will be completed outside of these shift times.

You are also required to work such additional hours as may be necessary for the proper performance of your duties or that may be required to fulfil your role.

Job Role/Description

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, repair and commissioning of materials handling equipment at customer sites. You will play a key role in keeping customers’ operations moving by delivering safe, reliable and high-quality technical support, while representing Radnes and The Bennie Group in a professional, customer-focused manner.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned servicing, preventative maintenance, inspections, fault diagnosis and repairs on forklifts and other materials handling equipment at customer sites.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults, identifying effective repair solutions that minimise customer downtime.
  • Repair or replace faulty parts safely and efficiently, ensuring all work is completed to the required technical and quality standards.
  • Request parts accurately via tablet and keep customers and the Service Team informed where follow-up work is required.
  • Complete job reports, service records, inspection documentation and compliance paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Work closely with the Service Co-ordinator and Service Manager to manage scheduled work, priorities, call-outs and customer commitments.
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships by communicating clearly, working respectfully on site and delivering a reliable service experience.
  • Follow all Radnes, Bennie and customer site procedures, including quality, compliance, environmental and operational requirements.
  • Take personal responsibility for health and safety, ensuring work is completed safely, professionally and in line with company procedures.
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge through training, manufacturer guidance and continuous professional development.

  • Relevant engineering experience or qualification, such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs safely and effectively.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills, with the ability to complete accurate reports and service documentation.
  • Analytical, practical and detail-focused approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to deal professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Able to work independently in the field while remaining well organised and accountable to the wider Service Team. Be on time and put in the graft to support customers when they need it most to keep their fleet moving.
  • Flexible, reliable and willing to support colleagues when operational priorities require it.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience within the materials handling, forklift, plant, agricultural, automotive or similar engineering sector.
  • Knowledge of forklift trucks, LOLER/PUWER requirements and safe working practices on customer sites.
  • Good working knowledge of tablets, digital job systems and Protean or similar service management software.
  • Electrical or hydraulic diagnostic experience.
