Job summary

Sierra 57 Consult Ltd. is seeking a Site-based Field Service Engineer to service CNC machine tools across the UK and Ireland.

The role involves diagnosing faults, installing and maintaining CNC equipment, and delivering on-site training and support to customers. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills, a technical engineering qualification, and a willingness to travel including overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years' field service experience within CNC machine tool or industrial equipment sector.
• Proven experience servicing, maintaining and repairing CNC machine tools.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Technical qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as BTEC, City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience with CNC controls would be advantageous, although training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair faults on CNC machine tools and associated equipment at customer sites.
• Install, commission, service and maintain CNC machine tools in line with company guidelines.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and software-related issues.
• Complete machine inspections, adjustments, geometry checks and component replacements.
• Provide technical support to customers to maximise machine uptime and minimise downtime.
• Liaise with internal teams to source parts and assist with fault resolution.
• Support a range of CNC machine tools and automation equipment as required.
• Provide customers with guidance and training on machine operation, maintenance and safety.
• Complete accurate service reports detailing work completed, parts used and any outstanding actions.

Role

• In the role of Field Service Engineer, you will diagnose and repair faults on CNC machine tools and associated equipment at customer sites
• You will Install, commission, service and maintain CNC machine tools in line with established company guidelines
• You will be required to Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and software‑related issues
• Complete machine inspections, adjustments, geometry checks and component replacements
• Provide technical support to customers to maximise machine uptime and minimise production downtime
• Liaise with internal teams to source parts and assist with the resolution of complex technical faults
• Support a range of CNC machine tools and automation equipment as required
• Provide customers with guidance and training on machine operation, maintenance and safety
• Complete accurate service reports detailing work completed, parts used and any outstanding actions
• Maintain accurate service histories and record time, travel and parts usage through internal ERP systems
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships through professional and responsive technical support
• Identify opportunities for additional service, spare parts and training requirements
• Ensure compliance with company and customer health, safety and environmental requirements, including RAMS, permits, isolation and site access procedures
• Maintain and develop technical knowledge of CNC controls, machine tools and automation systems
• Travel throughout the UK and Ireland, including overnight stays, occasional out‑of‑hours work and overseas travel where required
• Contribute to service utilisation, customer satisfaction and wider service‑related KPIs

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 4 years' field service experience within the CNC machine tool or industrial equipment sector
• Proven experience servicing, maintaining and repairing CNC machine tools
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding skills
• Technical qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as BTEC, City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent industry experience
• Experience with CNC controls would be advantageous, although training will be provided
• Strong understanding of industrial machinery, controls and associated systems
• Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Self‑motivated and able to work independently in a field‑based environment
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland, including overnight stays and occasional overseas travel
• Ability and drive to develop technical expertise across a wider range of products and systems
