Job description

SERVICE ENGINEER

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Service Engineer to join a growing engineering business near Exeter.

Working as part of the Engineering team, you will need to be a self-starter with practical experience in a service, engineering, maintenance or plant environment. You will be expected to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers and demonstrate a friendly, approachable and positive attitude.

Scope

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, this is a multi-skilled position encompassing both field-based service work and workshop-based repairs and maintenance.

The role will involve travelling throughout the South West, with occasional work further afield. You will carry out repairs, servicing, maintenance, installation and fault-finding activities both at customer sites and within the workshop.

Previous hands-on experience with hydraulic systems is essential. The successful candidate will have a strong practical understanding of hydraulic equipment and systems and be confident undertaking maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs and servicing.

The role will also involve working with pneumatic equipment and systems, including routine servicing, installation and commissioning. You will work closely with colleagues across the Engineering and Technical teams to provide effective support and ensure requirements are delivered efficiently.

Good computer skills and the ability to work confidently in a fast-moving environment would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out repairs both on customer sites and within the workshop in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assemble hydraulic and pneumatic systems in accordance with detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Test completed systems to ensure they meet the required operating criteria before delivery.
  • Install and commission hydraulic and pneumatic systems at customer premises, either independently or as part of a team.
  • Carry out fault-finding and diagnosis on complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems, often with limited information available.
  • Diagnose, inspect and repair hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders.
  • Diagnose, inspect and repair hydraulic pumps and motors.
  • Manufacture and install pipework for high-pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Attend breakdowns at short notice when required, including overtime and weekend working where necessary.
  • Maintain a professional and positive approach when dealing with customers and colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering and Technical colleagues to ensure requirements are delivered efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports relating to work undertaken.
  • Observe and comply with all relevant Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are completed to the required standard and within agreed timescales.
Essential

  • Practical experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Relevant engineering qualification to a minimum of NVQ Level 3.
  • Full UK driving licence held for a minimum of three years.
  • Ideally 3-5 years' experience in a similar service or engineering role.
  • Experience within an engineering, maintenance or plant environment.
  • Intermediate-level experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
