Why We Need This Role
We seek a dedicated Field Operations Technician to support our UK South West network (Devon and Cornwall). This role is vital for maintaining the performance, stability, and integrity of our telecom services, directly impacting operational efficiency, service uptime, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Work full-time (Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30) with the UK South West Field Operations team.
- Install, decommission, and troubleshoot network equipment and circuits at an intermediate level.
- Perform preventative and reactive maintenance of network infrastructure.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation, including standby, call-outs, dispatch, and overtime as needed.
- Travel regularly between core sites and amplifier locations (valid UK driving license required).
- Manage assets: process deliveries, replenish consumables, and coordinate shipping/receiving of materials.
- Maintain and operate tools, test sets, and electronic equipment (e.g., fibre optic systems, multiplexing gear, power units).
- Assist in installation, provisioning, testing, and maintenance of telecom services like Waves, Ethernet, and SDH.
- Troubleshoot and replace faulty network components, track spares, and manage repairs.
- Monitor network health, identify faults, and assist in restoring services.
- Keep accurate records of installations and faults, update logs, and report statuses.
- Continuously learn and utilize relevant systems and applications.
- Ensure all sites meet security and cleanliness standards.
- Leverage knowledge of DWDM and transport platforms (e.g., Nokia, Ciena, Adva); familiarity with subsea PFE systems is a bonus.
Skills and Qualifications
- Network management and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of telecommunications design, cabling, and network standards.
- Understanding of network topology and carrier services.
- Education in Electrical, Electronic, or IT field or relevant technical training.
