Job summary

Service Care is recruiting a Highway Inspector for a Local Authority in Sunderland. The role focuses on inspecting highways, identifying defects and arranging remedial works.

You will raise work orders, record findings with photos and reports, and provide technical guidance to stakeholders. The position is field-based, predominantly in the Sunderland area, with a 37-hour week, a van and PPE provided, and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

• Experience in highway inspections and related discipline.
• Understanding of legislation and codes of practice, notably the Highways Act 1980.
• Full driving licence and ability to drive an electric works van.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Experience recording investigations and producing reports.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highway and asset inspections, identifying defects and assessing conditions.
• Raise works orders for repairs and maintenance.
• Investigate reports and queries from the public and councillors.
• Record inspection findings with photos and written reports.
• Provide technical advice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
• Monitor works to ensure compliance with legislation and codes of practice.
• Undertake minor remedial works, including pothole repairs and signage tasks.
• Assist with enforcement and identify future maintenance schemes.
• Liaise with contractors and colleagues to resolve issues.
• Maintain safe working practices and health and safety compliance.
