Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment are seeking a Highway Inspector for Sunderland. The role is 37 hours per week, PAYE pay rate £18.04 per hour, working on-site to inspect roads and related assets, identify defects, investigate complaints and ensure works meet legal standards.

You will produce inspection reports, liaise with engineers and contractors, and help deliver maintenance in line with the Highways Act 1980.

Qualifications

• Experience in highway inspections or related civil engineering role.
• Knowledge of highway defects, road conditions and maintenance requirements.
• Understanding of highway inspection procedures and safety standards.
• Ability to record findings accurately during site inspections.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out on-site inspections of roads, footways and related assets.
• Identify and record defects and safety hazards, including potholes.
• Take photographs and prepare detailed inspection reports.
• Investigate complaints and respond to enquiries from residents and contractors.
• Monitor maintenance works for compliance with legislation and specs.
• Undertake minor repairs such as patching small potholes and traffic signs.
• Attend site meetings and provide technical advice to stakeholders.
• Identify areas requiring future maintenance or repair.
