Ecological Consultant - Ongoing Contract Role

Location: London Liverpool Street - Bishop's Stortford corridor, with additional work in West Sussex

Contract Type: Ongoing / Freelance / Contractor

We are seeking an experienced Ecological Consultant to support an ongoing pipeline of projects across sites located between London Liverpool Street and Bishop's Stortford, as well as in West Sussex. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated ecologist looking for consistent contract work with a variety of development‑led projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake field surveys including habitat surveys and bat surveys
  • Conduct regular site visits and fieldwork as required
  • Prepare high‑quality ecological reports and technical documents
  • Carry out mapping and desk‑based ecological assessments
  • Support Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments using the UKHab classification system
Essential Requirements
  • A relevant degree in Ecology or a related discipline
  • Experience in report writing and ecological mapping
  • Level 1 bat survey licence (other licences welcomed)
  • Excellent botanical identification skills
  • Experience with BNG assessments and UKHab
  • Availability and willingness to undertake regular fieldwork
Preferred Qualifications
  • Membership of CIEEM
  • Licences for protected species
  • Experience preparing or supporting EPS Mitigation Licence applications
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping software
  • Good working knowledge of relevant planning and protected species legislation, including the NPPF and local planning policies
