Job summary

ekte Ltd is hiring a Field IT Support Technician to travel to partner schools in Sheffield, providing on-site and remote support for hardware, software, and networking issues. You’ll help transition schools to cloud-first platforms and manage backups and patches across AD, M365, Google Workspace, and Intune/MDM.

The role requires 2+ years of IT support in education, a valid UK driving licence, and the ability to explain complex tech in plain English.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years hands-on IT support in a UK school, MAT, or educational IT MSP environment.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle for daily site visits.
  • Experience troubleshooting on-premise servers and VMware ESXi or Hyper-V, including virtual machines, snapshots, networking, and storage management.
  • Strong networking and Wi-Fi troubleshooting skills including switches, VLANs, routing, DNS/DHCP, and enterprise wireless access points.
  • Experience administering AD, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Intune/MDM.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in plain English.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
  • Full right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to partner schools across Sheffield and provide on-site and remote technical support for tickets.
  • Diagnose and resolve school network and Wi-Fi infrastructure issues (VLANs, subnets, routing, DHCP/DNS, firewalls, cloud-managed wireless).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot physical host servers and VMware vSphere/ESXi or Hyper-V environments with VMs and storage.
  • Assist schools migrating from physical servers to cloud-first environments using M365, Google Workspace, and Intune/MDM.
  • Manage backups and apply system patches; support compliance with DfE standards.
  • Communicate solutions clearly to school staff and school leaders as a trusted on-site adviser.

Job description

Salary: £26,630 - 31,858 per year

Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of hands-on IT support experience in a UK school, Multi-Academy Trust, or educational IT MSP environment.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle for daily site visits.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting on-premise physical servers and VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V, including virtual machines, snapshots, virtual networking, and storage management.
  • Strong networking and Wi-Fi troubleshooting skills, including switches, VLANs, routing, DNS/DHCP, and enterprise wireless access points.
  • Experience administering Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and endpoint management tools such as Intune/MDM.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts in plain English.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
  • Full right to work in the UK.
  • Desirable: Experience with server-to-cloud file or identity migrations, such as Active Directory to Entra ID, Microsoft 365, or Google Workspace.
  • Desirable: Experience with school peripherals, door access systems, interactive displays, and DfE-compliant web filtering platforms.
  • Desirable: CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Microsoft Certified Associate, or VMware VCP certifications.

  • Manage physical and cloud-based backups, apply system patches, and support compliance with DfE Digital & Cyber Security Standards.
  • Communicate technical solutions clearly to school staff, school business managers, and headteachers, serving as a trusted on-site adviser.
