Job summary

Comex-2000 is seeking a skilled Fibre Optic Engineer to join our UK team. You will hands-on with construction, activation, and maintenance of fibre networks across new-build and live environments, performing splicing, testing, commissioning, and fault resolution to meet high standards of safety and reliability.

You will work both independently and in a team, reading diagrams, updating documentation, and providing clear reports while operating outdoors in varied conditions.

Qualifications

• Strong technical skills in fibre splicing, testing, and diagnostics.
• Confident using OTDR and power meter equipment (EXFO, Anritsu, Nettest).
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and documentation.
• Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• At least 2 years’ experience in fibre splicing and testing.
• Experience with live and new-build networks and FTTP/FTTH/PON/GPON architectures.
• Familiarity with NRSWA requirements and client procedures.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test fibre cables (2–432 core SM).
• Perform fusion splicing using Fujikura or similar equipment.
• Build/install ODFs, joints, cabinets, and enclosures.
• Create new splice points and carry out live splicing and repairs.
• Work across underground, overhead, and internal environments.
• Ensure routing, coiling, and labelling meet standards.
• Carry out testing, commissioning, and fault resolution.
• Produce clear test reports and as-built documentation.
• Support commissioning and handover of new fibre links.
• Perform proactive and reactive maintenance on networks.
• Diagnose faults to minimise downtime and replace components.
