Job summary

Comex 2000 is seeking an experienced Fibre Optic Engineer to join our expanding UK team. You’ll be hands-on with fibre networks, performing splicing, testing, commissioning and fault resolution across live and new-build environments.

You’ll work to high safety standards, read schematics, and produce clear reports. This role requires 2+ years in fibre splicing/testing and familiarity with FTTP/FTTH/PON/GPON architectures.

Qualifications

• Experience in fibre splicing, testing, and diagnostics.
• Proficient with OTDR and power meter equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Experience on live and new-build networks.
• Familiar with FTTP/FTTH/PON/GPON architectures.
• Knowledge of fibre components such as closures, ODFs, and patch panels.

Responsibilities

• Installing, terminating, and testing fibre cables across various core counts.
• Performing fusion splicing and maintaining splice points.
• Building ODFs, joints, cabinets, and enclosures.
• Carrying out live network splicing and repairs.
• Testing with OTDR, ILM, CD, PMD, IOLM, and PON methods.
• Analyzing traces and test results to identify issues.
• Producing test reports and as-built documentation.
• Supporting commissioning and handover of new fibre links.
• Carrying out proactive and reactive maintenance on networks.
• Diagnosing faults to minimise downtime and replacing components.
