Job summary

Real Life Options is hiring a Female Support Worker to assist four individuals in a small rural supported living service near Durham. The role involves promoting independence, providing personal care and daily activities in a caring, flexible team.

Experience with autism and complex needs is beneficial; alternative communication methods may be needed. The service is located in Edmondsley, 5 miles from Durham city centre, with a pro-active transport approach and flexible shifts.

  • Support four individuals in a small supported living service.
  • Assist with daily activities and promote independence and choice.
  • Provide personal care, cooking and meal preparation, shopping and finances.
  • Help with household tasks and engaging activities (walks, day trips, arts, cinema).

Job description

Female Support Worker

Edmondsley, Durham (DH7)
£12.71 per hour
Part time 30hoursper week must be fully flexible

Shift patterns:
  • 8:00am – 8:30pm
  • 3:00pm – 8:30pm
  • Optional double-up shifts (10:00am – 3/4:00pm – flexible depending on availability)

About the Role

You’ll be supporting four individuals, three of whom have autism, within a small supported living service in a rural setting near Durham.

Experience with complex needs and alternative communication methods would be beneficial.

You may support individuals with:
  • Autism
  • Prader-Willi Syndrome
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Behaviours of concern
What a Typical Day Looks Like

You’ll support individuals with daily activities while promoting independence and choice, including:

  • Personal care
  • Cooking & meal preparation
  • Shopping & finances
  • Household tasks

You’ll also help people enjoy life through activities such as:

  • Walks in quiet locations
  • Day trips (e.g. coast)
  • Arts & crafts
  • Cinema, bowling & baking
  • Music & relaxation
Location & Travel

This is a rural service (5 miles from Durham city centre).

  • Bus access available (Routes 56, X78, 3)
  • Earliest arrival needed: 8:00am
  • Own transport is beneficial
