Job description

Central Recruitment is currently recruiting for a female Night Support Worker, to work in the Westminster area. The drop-in service provides support to vulnerable homeless women affected by substance misuse, unemployment, domestic violence and mental health issues.

The successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week, covering waking night shifts across Monday - Sunday from 9PM - 8:30AM on a 2 week rolling rota. Week 1 you'll work Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, and week 2 you'll work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Temporary cover is required for approximately 4-6 weeks. The pay rate for this role is £13.85, with £1.67 holiday pay, totalling £15.52 per hour.

Please note; the service is based over two sites, 100m apart and the job regularly involves walking throughout and between both sites. One site is a building over five floors, with stair access only.

Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain a welcoming environment during out of hours overnight periods for all staff, service users and visitors
  2. Ensure that appropriate responsive support is provided to service users during overnight periods
  3. Ensure communal areas are clean, tidy, relevant and welcoming
  4. Report all repairs, housekeeping and maintenance issues using the reporting mechanisms in place
  5. Maintain a good working knowledge of homelessness issues and be able to offer advice to people who call at the Project in person or by telephone
  6. Provide administrative duties as needed, for example post and mail management, responding to fire alarms, compiling and updating of lists
  7. Undertake welfare and health & safety checks
  8. In partnership with the Concierge, conduct building management checks and respond to associated tasks and duties
  9. Contribute to ensuring that all service user contact, activity, file notes and correspondence is logged in their respective files and systems
  10. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of each service user's support needs and associated risks
  11. Provide support to a service user that is in line with the approach identified by the Support Worker teams
  12. Attend to and deal with incidents that occur during overnight periods and assist in bringing incidents and situations to a clear and positive resolution
  13. Understand and explain when necessary, the content of the Licence Agreement and House Rules
Minimum Requirements:
  1. Experience of working with vulnerable people
  2. Knowledge of the challenges faced by homeless people and in particular homeless women
  3. Knowledge of the needs of homeless women, and support approaches to women with challenging behaviour and complex needs
  4. Experience in setting and supporting service users to achieve SMART objectives
  5. Ability to conduct dynamic risk assessments and work within recognised practices of safeguarding
  6. Knowledge of statutory compliances and standards such as health and safety and equal opportunities, particularly within a residential setting
  7. Knowledge of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and the Care Act
  8. Knowledge and experience of Housing Benefit and related issues
  9. Working experience of Supporting People and the PIE Psychologically Informed Environment Framework
  10. Ability to work under pressure within a fluid and challenging work environment and respond appropriately to sensitive situations
  11. Aware of data protection law and the appropriate sharing of personal and sensitive information
  12. Educated to NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  13. Excellent IT skills, including an ability to work with the full Microsoft Package, especially Excel

Further Requirements:
  1. Current valid right to work in the UK
  2. Minimum 12 months' of paid experience in a front line social care role within the last 3 years (unless recruitment criteria states otherwise)
  3. A fully enhanced DBS registered on the DBS update service or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £60)
  4. Employment or education history to cover the last 5 years which can be verified through the referencing process
