Job summary

The Yard in Edinburgh is hiring a Family Worker to provide emotional and practical support to families with children with diverse needs. This full-time role offers 37 hours per week and includes alternate Friday/Saturday work at Edinburgh location.

You will empower families to navigate and access services, build strong relationships, and ensure compliance with safeguarding practices. Closing date 19 October 2026 and interviews later in October.

Qualifications

• Experience with children and young people who have disabilities or additional support needs.
• Excellent relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of children's rights, trauma-informed and inclusive practices.
• Understanding of child and adult protection practices.
• Excellent organisational and administrative abilities.

• Contract: Full-time (37 hours per week including alternate Friday/Saturday)
• Location: Edinburgh

• Salary: £29,052 per annum (£15.10 per hour)

As a Family Worker you will provide emotional and practical support to families with children with a wide range of additional support needs, empowering them to understand and access the support available to them from external services.

The Family Worker role is essential in ensuring that families using The Yard and Edinburgh Disability and Neurodivergence Hub (EDAN) services get the right help when they need it most.

This job is for you if you have:

• Experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities and additional support needs.
• Excellent relationship building skills.
• Knowledge of children’s rights, trauma informed and inclusive practices.
• An understanding of child and adult protection practices.
• Excellent organisational skills and administrative abilities.
