About the Opportunity

The programme is an evidence-informed 6-month intervention for kinship carers delivered in the home and community. As a Family Support Worker, you will deliver this flagship programme to families in Surrey, providing intensive one-to-one support to empower carers to become resilient, well-informed and equipped with strong support networks. You will assist them in navigating local ecosystems to unlock community assets.

Additionally, you will play a key role in delivering the kinship programme in Surrey, ensuring prospective and new kinship carers understand their journey to becoming Special Guardians and access appropriate workshops and services.

What You Will Do
One-to-One Support
  • Direct 1-to-1 Guidance: Provide intensive emotional and practical guidance directly to kinship carers for up to six months.
  • Advocacy & Liaison: Offer advocacy support in meetings, liaise with schools, and connect with local organisations for specialised support, training, and behaviour management.
  • Groups & Grants: Set up and facilitate monthly support groups, assist with grant applications for essential items/breaks, and signpost carers to targeted training opportunities.
Ready Programme Delivery & Coordination
  • Engagement & Booking: Book carers onto workshops, register them via scheduled calls and support engagement throughout.
  • Needs & Referrals: Identify additional needs or reasonable adjustments, refer carers to advice and peer support services and occasionally assist in online workshop delivery.
  • Administration & Evaluation: Manage workshop records, collate feedback, track outcomes and maintain internal database systems.
Collaboration
  • Work closely with internal teams across communications, campaigns, peer support and advice to keep carers at the centre of service delivery.
  • Assist local authorities with the referral process and build overall awareness of kinship care.
  • Represent the team at external events and meetings where relevant.
Safeguarding & Risk Management
  • Recognise, report, record, respond and refer safeguarding risks using established procedures in collaboration with Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL/DDSL).
  • Complete event risk assessments, follow Health & Safety guidelines and utilise the lone worker app.
Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Accurately record casework, visits and group attendance on Salesforce.
  • Complete carer Needs Assessments, set SMART goals, conduct mid-term reviews and gather quarterly case studies.
  • Prepare monthly area reports, contribute to local authority quarterly reports and attend monitoring meetings.
General Duties & Standard Clauses
  • Engage in team meetings, supervision, appraisals, and reflective practice.
  • Promote Kinship Care Week locally and attend staff team days.
  • Adhere to Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Data Protection/GDPR, and Health & Safety policies.
  • Requires a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

  • Knowledge & Skills: Understanding of kinship care regulations and Special Guardianship guidance. Excellent administrative, organisational, IT (Word, Excel, CRM), and communication skills.
  • Work Management: Ability to manage a complex workload independently, meet project KPIs, maintain strict confidentiality and manage a diary effectively.

  • Personal Attributes: Positive, empathetic, and professional attitude. Strong commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles.
  • Flexibility to travel across London and England as required.
