Weightmans seeks a Family Solicitor to join our North West practice with offices across the UK including Liverpool. You will handle a varied family caseload, under the guidance of the head of department, Fiona Davidson, focusing on divorce, financial remedies and private children matters.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of family law matters, including divorce, financial remedy and private children cases.
  • Provide clear, practical and client-focused legal advice, ensuring clients understand options and processes.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through excellent client care.
  • Prepare correspondence, court documents, witness statements and other legal documentation.
  • Assist with negotiations and alternative dispute resolution, while supporting litigation when necessary.
  • Manage deadlines, case progression and administrative requirements.
  • Undertake legal research and keep up to date with developments in family law.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the team to support growth of the practice.
  • Support business development initiatives, including networking and marketing activities.
  • Ensure advice is commercially aware and cost-effective.

About your new role

Our Family team covers the whole of the UK, with personnel in Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle. The Family Team has been recognised in the Legal 500, and Chambers with a number of Partners being designated as “Leading Individuals” and experts in their field, reflecting our enviable reputation for advising clients on all their family legal needs. We are proud to provide a personal, transparent and efficient service by a team which includes partners and solicitors qualified in English and Scottish Law, as well as trained Collaborative Lawyers and Mediators. We are members of Resolution and Consensus. We have a diverse range of clients and also act on behalf of public bodies.

As a Family Solicitor you will be required to help develop and expand our Family Law practice in the North West. You will work closely with the head of department Fiona Davidson to ensure excellent client service.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of family law matters, including divorce, financial remedy and private children cases, with an appropriate level of supervision.
  • Provide clear, practical and client-focused legal advice, ensuring clients fully understand their options and the legal processes involved.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through excellent client care, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity and professionalism when supporting clients through challenging personal circumstances.
  • Prepare correspondence, court documents, witness statements and other legal documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes, while supporting litigation matters where court proceedings are necessary.
  • Effectively manage deadlines, case progression and administrative requirements to ensure matters are handled in a timely and organised manner.
  • Undertake legal research and keep up to date with developments in family law and related areas.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the team, sharing knowledge and contributing to the continued success and growth of the practice.
  • Support business development initiatives, including networking, relationship building and contributing to marketing activities where appropriate.
  • Ensure advice is delivered in a commercially aware and cost-effective manner, providing practical solutions that meet clients' objectives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a genuine passion for Family Law and a desire to build your career within a highly regarded team. We also require you to have/be:

  • NQ to 3 Years PQE
  • A sound grounding in divorce, financial remedies and children matters.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex legal issues in a straightforward and accessible way.
  • Exceptional client care skills, including empathy, discretion and sensitivity when dealing with emotionally challenging situations.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of the importance of delivering proportionate and cost-effective legal advice.
  • A pragmatic and solutions-focused approach, with an appreciation for negotiation and non-court dispute resolution, alongside confidence in supporting litigation where appropriate.
  • The confidence and initiative to manage matters independently while recognising when to seek guidance from more experienced colleagues.
  • Resilience and professionalism when working on sensitive and emotionally demanding cases.
  • Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, particularly in relation to complex financial arrangements, pensions, trusts, business interests, international aspects and children matters.
  • A collaborative approach and strong team-working skills.
  • An interest in business development and building professional relationships, with the ambition to develop your profile and client network as your career progresses.
