Job summary

Somerset Council is seeking a Facilities Officer to help ensure our 140+ council and commercial buildings across Somerset are safe, compliant and welcoming. You'll travel between sites, carry out safety checks, resolve issues quickly and keep precise records, supporting day-to-day operations and customer service.

Hybrid working is offered, with 37 hours per week and a permanent contract. Salary is £26,016 to £26,847 per annum, with LGPS pension and other benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities, property, health and safety, compliance or similar operational environment.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and digital systems.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel between sites; full driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out essential safety and compliance checks to ensure buildings are safe and compliant.
• Spot and resolve issues quickly to prevent disruption and maintain positive experiences for staff and visitors.
• Keep accurate records and updated compliance information for property portfolio management.
• Coordinate access for contractors, colleagues and building users to support projects and day-to-day operations.
• Provide friendly, practical support and guidance to building users to create safe, welcoming workplaces.
