Job summary

York College is seeking a Facilities Officer to join our team at Sim Balk Lane campus. The role involves opening and closing college buildings, supervising cleaning staff, and assisting with minor maintenance to ensure a safe environment for learners and staff.

Full on‑the‑job training is provided. You will be on a rotating rota (early and late shifts), with opportunities to join the First Aid rota (£500 pa extra) and the on‑call escalation rota (1 in 6) plus a paid Saturday shift.

• Open and close college buildings on a rota (06:30-15:00 and 14:00-22:00, rotating weekly).
• Supervise cleaning staff and delegate duties; assist with caretaker/porter services.
• Assist with minor maintenance and security to keep learners and staff safe.
• Trained to join the College First Aid rota with an additional £500 per annum on successful training.
• Be on the On-Call escalation rota for buildings (1 week in 6) and work a Saturday shift with paid breaks (1 week in 6).

About the role
Working in a team on a rota basis (06:30-15:00 and 14:00-22:00, rotating weekly), our Facilities Officers open and close the college buildings, assist with managing student behaviour, supervise and delegate cleaning duties to a team of cleaning staff, assist with any caretaker/porter services and any minor maintenance related issues and ensure the college is a safe and secure environment for learners, staff and other users.

Facilities Officers are trained to become part of the College’s First Aid rota when on duty, for which there is an additional payment of £500 per annum (paid monthly) once training is completed.

Facilities Officers are also required to be on the On-Call escalation rota for the buildings on a rotational basis (currently 1 week in 6) and work a Saturday shift with paid breaks (currently 1 week in 6).

About the person
We require a flexible person who can work independently, and as part of a team, to provide and maintain the security, cleanliness, and efficient running of the college buildings. Previous experience in a similar role is not required, however, the successful candidate will need to be hardworking and dedicated to learning from on-the-job-training. Full training will be supplied, where required/needed.
