Job summary

Bupa The Bridles Care Home in Wincanton is seeking a Maintenance Operative to keep facilities fully functional. You will perform building and equipment maintenance, following Bupa SOPs and health & safety standards to protect residents and staff.

Core duties include completing compliance checks, coordinating with approved contractors, and supporting regional maintenance tasks while staying flexible to cover other sites within about an hour of travel.

Qualifications

• Understanding of building services including heating, water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution and plumbing.
• Awareness of building fabric maintenance and necessary standards.
• Experience with planned maintenance systems and record keeping.
• Knowledge of statutory requirements and compliance experience.
• Valid full driving licence.
• City & Guilds / BTEC / ONC / HNC or 3+ years hands-on property maintenance experience.
• Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Proficient with common computer systems.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Flexible to meet changing care home needs.
• Experience in painting and decorating.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety and compliance checks using digital systems per SOPs.
• Close tasks assigned by Maintenance Manager or home on compliance tools.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness to satisfy Health, Fire, and Legionella requirements.
• Carry out maintenance/repairs to high standard and on time, with value for money.
• Document residents' space preferences and actions taken.
• Report defects, obtain quotes, and manage repairs with approved contractors.
• Escalate irreparable defects to Home Manager or Maintenance Manager.
• Support refurbishment and capex programs with minimal disruption.
• Keep tools/equipment safely stored and maintained.
• Assist with induction on emergency exits, fire points and evacuations; document instructions.
