Job summary

About us:

At the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG), we explore physiological processes at multiple levels, bridging discovery science with translational medicine and fostering connections between physical and life sciences. Overview of the role:

We seek a Facilities Maintenance Technician with a “can-do” attitude to join our Facilities team. You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing the laboratory and building environment to ensure that our facilities and equipment are professionally managed. This position is available immediately, with full training provided through departmental and University-run courses.

Key responsibilities:

  • Repairing and maintaining building systems, plumbing, and electrical fixtures
  • Responding to equipment breakdowns and emergencies
  • Supporting health & safety initiatives, including fire drills, pest control, and waste disposal
  • Installing lab equipment, shelving, and furniture
  • Liaising with contractors and Estates Services for efficient facility management

Selection criteria:

  • Recognised qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent) in building services (plumbing, carpentry, electrical work)
  • Experience in repairs, maintenance, and workshop environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective teamwork and clear communication in English
  • Competency with IT tools (Word, Excel, email)
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage unexpected challenges
