Job summary

Colchester Institute seeks a Maintenance Engineer to join our Facilities team on a permanent, full-time basis. You will handle regular maintenance and repairs across college sites, support emergency response, and assist with minor project planning and carpentry work.

Role involves refurbishment tasks, compliance with health and safety regulations, and liaising with Contractors as needed. Travel to other sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience in proactive facilities maintenance across multiple building types.
• Experience assessing risk and preparing health and safety risk assessments and method statements.
• Ability to interpret operations and maintenance manuals quickly.

Responsibilities

• Undertake regular maintenance and repairs across all college sites and provide first-line support.
• Assist with planning and specify minor projects, carrying out carpentry/joinery work where appropriate.
• Carry out refurbishment work including windows, doors, ceilings, floors, walls and paint/building fabric repairs.
• Support emergency response and perform emergency repairs, including basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing tasks where needed.
• Maintain clean workshop space and updated inventory of tools and equipment.
• Review preventative works in line with Fire Risk Assessments and regulatory requirements.
