Job summary

ExtraCare Charitable Trust is recruiting a Facilities Maintenance Assistant at Hughenden Gardens Village. You will support day-to-day maintenance, including planned and reactive work, with a focus on safety and resident well-being.

The role covers basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical tasks, painting and decorating, and health and safety inspections within a modern retirement village. Hours are 37.5 per week, with occasional out-of-hours cover; salary is £28,431 per year.

Qualifications

• Experience in a multi-dwelling building maintenance.
• Carpentry and plumbing skills are essential.
• Knowledge of MS Word and Excel for logging requests.
• Flexible to support rota-based out-of-hours work.
• Commitment to health and safety standards including COSHH/IOSHH (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance, reactive repairs, and compliance checks across the village.
• Perform health and safety inspections and system testing.
• Prioritise repairs and deliver high-quality workmanship within target times.
• Assist with void properties, water safety checks, and routine maintenance.
• Work with contractors to ensure safe practices and risk assessments.
• Provide handyman support to residents and assist with furniture assembly as needed.
• Maintain maintenance records, raise purchase orders and report defects.
• Assist with staff induction, fire safety training, and risk assessments.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and ensure a safe, clean environment.
• Support the Maintenance Supervisor and cover duties in their absence.
