Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking Facilities Assistants for our Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site in Shrewsbury. Multiple hours blocks include 37.5, 32, or 20 hours per week with a permanent contract available.

You will assist in preparing and serving meals, maintaining HACCP standards and working with ward staff to ensure timely patient service.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 award in food safety or equivalent.
  • Evidence of a commitment to continuous development.
  • Level 3 in Food Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Help prepare and serve food to patients, staff and visitors in the hospital.
  • Ensure compliance with hygiene, health & safety procedures and current food safety legislation.
  • Operate equipment safely (dishwashers, trolleys, coffee machines).
  • Collaborate with ward staff to serve meals within protected mealtime schedules.

- x1 Permanent 37.5hr Post Full time, 1 x 32hr per week, 1x 20 hours per week position

Our facilities Catering Team play an essential role within the trust, responsible for catering at ward level and commercial outlets across both our hospital sites.

We are recruiting Facilities Assistants at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and looking for individuals who share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive a quality meal service.

We have flexible hours vacancy opportunities and would be happy to discuss hours and shift patterns with successful candidates.

Main duties of the job
  • Help prepare and serve food to patients, staff and visitors in the hospital.
  • Responsible for complying with good hygieneand health & safety practices within the departmentin accordance with standing operating procedures and current food safetyand health & safety legislation.
  • Use equipment like dishwashers, food trolleys (Burlodge Trolleys) and coffee machines safely and correctly.
  • Work with other team members and ward staff to ensure patient meals are served within the protected mealtime schedule on time.
  • Talk politely with patients, staff and visitors and help with any questions or problems.
  • To comply with appropriate HACCP food safety documentation including taking and recording food temperatures at ward level or in retail outlets for the departments HACCP food safety management system and take corrective actionwhere necessary.

Education and Qualifications
  • Level 2 award in food safety or equivalent
  • Evidence of a commitment to continuous development
  • Level 3 in Food Safety
Experience
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative
  • Proven ability to manage own workload and prioritise when there are competing priorities
  • Evidence of experience of working and contributing in a team
  • Evidence of ability to work under pressure
  • Relevant experience of working in a catering environment, however full training will be given as part of an induction plan lasting at least a few weeks
Skills and Knowledge
  • Evidence of good literacy skills and the ability to understand instructions, guidance, policies and procedures
  • Evidence of delivering a high level of customer service
  • Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP, COSHH and dealing with Allergens
  • Proven ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including; patients, staff-members, visitors, suppliers & environmental health
