Job summary

BAE Systems in Glasgow area is seeking a skilled Fabricator – Plater to interpret engineering drawings, mark materials and prepare plates using oxy‑fuel cutting and grinding. You will assemble ship structures and fabricate components with precision, supporting Type 26 frigate programs.

The role demands hands-on fabrication experience, knowledge of safety and quality standards, and ability to work in a high‑performing team. Onsite work is required with a day/night shift pattern in place.

Qualifications

• Must have a Modern Apprenticeship / Trade Papers and relevant mechanical qualifications
• Demonstrated hands-on fabrication experience in construction or manufacturing
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and to perform tack welding to safety standards

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings and mark off materials
• Assemble ship structures including shell, decks and frames with accurate fitting and tack welds
• Fabricate ship items such as seats, ladders, panels and watertight doors
• Form materials using rolling, flanging and cutting equipment
