McGeoch Technology Ltd. in Birmingham is seeking a Fabrication/Welder to join our production facility in the city centre. The role covers fabrication of mild steel, aluminium, stainless steel and welding using TIG and MIG processes, with a strong emphasis on quality and accuracy.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will read drawings, set up welds, maintain tools and work within agreed lead times. A BS EN ISO 15614 accreditation is required, and overtime may be available to meet production

Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial fabrication and welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
  • BS EN ISO 15614 accreditation (in date).

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium components to drawings.
  • Weld components and frames using TIG and MIG welding processes.
  • Set up and position parts, ensuring accurate fit and finish.
  • Grind, finish and inspect fabrications to meet specifications.
  • Maintain tools, gauges and equipment; keep workspace tidy.
  • Work with production team to meet deadlines; overtime as needed.

Fabrication/Welder

Location: Birmingham

Salary: Competitive + Over time (when required)

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week

Hours: Monday to Thursday 0730 – 1600, Friday (Apply online only)

McGeoch Technology Ltd. is a well-established and expanding manufacturing company based in Birmingham and due to their current projected growth, we are now looking to recruit for the position of Fabrication / Welder. The successful applicant will be based at our client's production facility in Birmingham city centre.

Key Area & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Production Manager as part of the Fabrication / Welder team, your responsibilities will be preparation and welding of mild steel, Aluminium, Stainless steel, thicknesses of material will range from 1mm - 10mm.

Your duties will include but not be limited to the following;

Technical Duties
  • Fabrication of Mild steel, Stainless-steel & Aluminium components as required ensuring that the highest standards in finish and tolerances, in accordance with information supplied, are achieved using sound “trade” methods.
  • Must hold the following accreditations, BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614. - 2 and approved to weld Butt, Fillet and plug.
  • Weld components and framework using a TIG & MIG welding processes.
  • Position align and fit parts according to specifications.
  • Grind, sand, polish and detail fabrications to required finish using hand and power tools to a high standard.
  • Measure and examine completed work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • All Fabrications tasks are to be completed in the agreed (quoted) time frames or better.
  • Operation of manual machine tools, as part of the fabrication process when required.
  • Machines to be kept in a tidy and well-maintained manner, which would require maintenance be undertaken from time to time.
  • Ensure that the supply of consumables, i.e. gas, welding wire etc. does not run which could affect the job.
  • Work with the Manager to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Maintains tools, gauges and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
  • Display flexibility to work in other departments and overtime as necessary to assist the company in meeting production goals.
  • Liaise with design team and give input into new designs.
  • Complete administrative tasks as required.
  • Work from drawing without supervision.
  • Report drawing errors.
Competencies
  • Proven knowledge and experience of Industrial Fabrication.
  • Significant Industry exposure.
  • BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614. - 2 accreditation (in date)
  • Knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, weld procedures and work instructions.
  • Ability to recognise welding symbols and specifications.
  • Be customer and results focused, have integrity, and be a proven team-player.
