Job summary

McGeoch Technology Ltd. based in Birmingham is seeking a Fabrication/Welder to join their production facility in Birmingham city centre.

You will perform fabrication of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium components from drawings, using TIG and MIG welding processes, with attention to finish and tolerances. The role reports to the Production Manager and requires reading detailed engineering drawings, adherence to BS EN ISO 15614-1/2 accreditation, and flexibility to work overtime to meet

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate components from drawings using TIG/MIG welding

Fabrication/Welder

Location: Birmingham

Salary: Competitive + Over time (when required)

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week

Hours: Monday to Thursday 14.30 – 23.00 and then 11.00 – 16.00 on a Friday

Company Description

McGeoch Technology Ltd. is a well-established and expanding manufacturing company based in Birmingham and due to their current projected growth, we are now looking to recruit for the position of Fabrication / Welder. The successful applicant will be based at our client's production facility in Birmingham city centre.

The Role

Reporting to the Production Manager as part of the Fabrication / Welder team, your responsibilities will be preparation and welding of mild steel, Aluminium, Stainless steel, thicknesses of material will range from 1mm - 10mm.

Key Area & Responsibilities
Technical Duties
  • Fabrication of Mild steel, Stainless-steel & Aluminium components as required ensuring that the highest standards in finish and tolerances, in accordance with information supplied, are achieved using sound “trade” methods.
  • Must hold the following accreditations, BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614. - 2 and approved to weld Butt, Fillet and plug.
  • Weld components and framework using a TIG & MIG welding processes.
  • Position align and fit parts according to specifications.
  • Grind, sand, polish and detail fabrications to required finish using hand and power tools to a high standard.
  • Measure and examine completed work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • All Fabrications tasks are to be completed in the agreed (quoted) time frames or better.
  • Operation of manual machine tools, as part of the fabrication process when required.
  • Machines to be kept in a tidy and well-maintained manner, which would require maintenance be undertaken from time to time.
  • Ensure that the supply of consumables, i.e. gas, welding wire etc. does not run which could affect the job.
  • Work with the Manager to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Maintains tools, gauges and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
  • Display flexibility to work in other departments and overtime as necessary to assist the company in meeting production goals.
  • Liaise with design team and give input into new designs.
  • Complete administrative tasks as required.
  • Work from drawing without supervision.
  • Report drawing errors.
Competencies
  • Proven knowledge and experience of Industrial Fabrication.
  • Significant Industry exposure.
  • BS EN ISO 15614 -1 & BS EN ISO 15614. - 2 accreditation (in date).
  • Knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, weld procedures and work instructions.
  • Ability to recognise welding symbols and specifications.
  • Be customer and results focused, have integrity, and be a proven team-player.
