Job summary

RG Setsquare is recruiting on behalf of a well-established building services and facilities management contractor for an experienced Fabric Engineer to join their team on a high-profile hard FM contract. This is a mobile, varied role covering Grantham, Newark, Retford, and surrounding locations with planned and reactive fabric maintenance on live transport sites.

The package includes £32,000 - £34,000 per annum, a company van, fuel card, and an on-call allowance of £100 per week when on rota.

Qualifications

• Time-served fabric engineer with a background in property maintenance or mobile engineering.
• Competency across fabric trades: carpentry, plastering, decorating, basic plumbing.
• Experience delivering planned and reactive maintenance in FM environments.

Responsibilities

• Complete reactive works orders and PPMs within SLAs and KPIs.
• Carry out fabric maintenance and small works across live transport sites.
• Perform fire alarm tests and emergency lighting checks as part of PM schedule.
• Coordinate with the two-person team and helpdesk on task status.
• Maintain accurate site logbooks and communicate progress to client.

Fabric Engineer

About the Role

RG Setsquare is recruiting on behalf of a well-established building services and facilities management contractor for an experienced Fabric Engineer to join their team on a high-profile hard FM contract.

This is a genuinely interesting role - you will be working on a contract that delivers service and maintenance to large public sector sites, covering locations from Grantham and Newark through to Retford. It's a mobile, varied position with a mix of planned and reactive fabric maintenance, small works, and multi-discipline tasks across live transport environments.

The package includes a salary of £32,000 - £34,000, company van, fuel card, and an on-call allowance of £100 per week when on the rota (approximately one in five weeks).

Location requirement: Candidates must live within 10 miles of either Retford, Newark, Lincoln, or Grantham.

What You'll Be Doing

• Completing all delegated reactive works orders and PPMs within contract-defined SLAs and KPIs
• Carrying out a wide range of fabric maintenance and small works tasks - including basic plumbing, carpentry, plastering, decorating, and general handyman works
• Performing fire alarm tests and emergency lighting flick tests as part of the planned maintenance schedule
• Carrying out water temperature checks and water flushing in line with Legionella compliance requirements
• Working as part of a dynamic two-person team alongside an electrician on jobs requiring dual trade attendance
• Communicating daily with the helpdesk and supervisor on the status of PPM and reactive tasks
• Keeping all site logbooks accurate and up to date
• Ensuring the client, customer, and team are kept informed through regular feedback and updates
• Delivering a high standard of customer service at all times - you will be working in live, public-facing transport environments
• Adhering to company Health & Safety policy and all site-specific requirements at all times

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Time-served fabric engineer with a background in property maintenance or mobile engineering
• Demonstrable competency across building services fabric trades - carpentry, plastering, decorating, and basic plumbing as a minimum
• Experience delivering both planned and reactive maintenance within a commercial or FM environment
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team
• Strong customer service skills - you will be representing the business in a client-facing, public environment
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to update helpdesks, supervisors, and clients clearly
• Solid understanding of Health & Safety best practice
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Live ideally between Grantham and Newark or Grantham and LincolnPlease note: all relevant training will be provided to the right candidate - if you have the core fabric skills and the right attitude, our client will support the rest.
