Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Gearbox Test Engineer to lead development, validation, and reliability testing of Formula 1 transmission systems in a factory setting. You will run full dyno tests, develop rigs, analyze high-resolution data, and drive improvements to durability and efficiency without trackside duties.

The role requires a degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering and 3+ years in mechanical testing within motorsport, automotive, or aerospace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing with motorsport, automotive, or aerospace experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of gear systems, tribology, and lubrication.
• Experience with test rig operation and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute rigorous gearbox test programs, including full dyno testing and endurance/accelerated life testing.
• Define test procedures, instrumentation, and acceptance criteria.
• Operate and support test rigs simulating race duty cycles.
• Analyze test data and correlate with simulations and track data.
• Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
