GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Gearbox Test Engineer to lead development, validation, and reliability testing of Formula 1 transmission systems in a factory setting. You will run dyno tests, build rigs, and use data-driven methods to push gearbox performance and durability beyond current limits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing in motorsport/auto/aerospace.
• Strong understanding of gear systems, tribology, and lubrication.
• Experience with test rig operation and instrumentation (torque, speed, strain, temperature).
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python).
• Ability to work in fast-paced, cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute gearbox test programs and dyno tests.
• Define procedures, instrumentation, and acceptance criteria.
• Operate advanced test rigs simulating race duty cycles.
• Analyze test data for durability, wear, and thermal performance.
• Correlate data with simulations and historical data.
• Lead root-cause analysis of gearbox failures.
• Develop new test rigs and improve data acquisition.
• Collaborate with design and simulation teams to validate concepts.
