Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a Level 3 Learning Support Practitioner for the Reception class at Burnt Tree Primary School in Oldbury. The role is part-time (Mon/Tue), fixed-term for 12 months, starting as soon as possible.

You will support EYFS learning, deliver Read Write Inc phonics, and work across year groups as needed to ensure consistent care and progress for all pupils.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 3 qualification (CACHE, BTEC, NNEB) in early years education and childcare.
• GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths.
• Substantial experience working with children in Early Years.
• Experience delivering phonics, particularly Read Write Inc (RWI).
• Be flexible to work across different year groups if required.
• Experience supporting children with SEND and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Be a team player with strong communication and safeguarding commitment.

Responsibilities

• Support learning and development in line with the EYFS curriculum and school expectations.
• Provide individual and small-group support, including for pupils with SEND.
• Support phonics teaching, using Read Write Inc to develop early reading and writing skills.
• Cover a group or class in emergencies under direction of senior staff.
• Collaborate with colleagues, parents and external agencies to raise attainment.
• Observe, assess and record pupil progress and contribute to planning.
• Assist with transitions, lunchtimes and outdoor learning.
