Job summary

Mitie Group plc. in the UK is seeking a Head of Major Projects to lead the newly formed Major Projects function within Power & Grid, delivering major HV grid connections, BESS, and balance‑of‑plant projects.

The role carries full P&L responsibility for the £100m business, oversees 30–35 professionals across design, engineering and delivery, and requires a commercially astute leader with a track record of scale and governance in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in senior leadership for complex HV grid or power infrastructure projects (typically £10m+).
• Full P&L responsibility in contractor/ICP settings.
• Ability to scale multi-site operations with governance and delivery standards.
• Leadership background across design, estimating, delivery and governance.
• Experience in UK-wide infrastructure contexts with cross‑functional collaboration.
• Deep understanding of HV, BESS, substations, and transmission assets.
• Capable of guiding 3–4 Project Directors and ~30–35 reports.
• Delivery-first leadership balancing strategy with hands-on site presence.
• Resilient, credible leader capable of influencing within a PLC culture.
• Growth-oriented leadership focused on performance and cultural integration.
• Long‑term potential to take broader divisional responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead major HV grid connections, BESS and related projects with strong governance and delivery discipline.
• Oversee design, estimation, delivery, and project governance functions.
• Drive operational excellence and alignment across two businesses under a unified operating model.
• Travel regularly to sites including Milton Keynes, Hull and London.
