Job summary

Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) is seeking an analytically minded professional to enhance evidence-based decision making across UKRI portfolios. The role emphasises text mining, network analysis, and data visualisation to deliver insights for strategic planning.

You will work with a team across UKRI, applying reproducible methods and collaborating with experts to support informed funding decisions. Hybrid working is available at Polaris House, Swindon.

Qualifications

• Strong data analysis skills and reproducible workflows.
• Experience in programming languages such as R, Python or SQL.
• Scientific literacy with bioscience interests.
• Excellent data presentation skills for diverse audiences.
• Teamworking and interpersonal abilities.
• Genuine interest in BBSRC's aims and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to information requests for parliamentary questions and ministerial briefings with robust data context.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to define and analyse research portfolios using text searching and clustering.
• Undertake strategic analyses of grants portfolios across national and international funders.
• Support development of corporate analyses by institution, region or topic, ensuring data quality.
• Monitor data quality and maintain core research classifications.
• Summarise and visualise portfolio data for internal and external stakeholders.
• Continuously improve knowledge with machine learning, text mining and data visualization techniques.
