Job description

The Spectator started publishing in 1828, making it the world's oldest weekly magazine, and a globally recognised and trusted source of commentary and analysis. As the media landscape evolves, we continue to grow our live events offering as an important part of our brand and how we engage with our audience.

We are looking for an Events Producer to shape and drive the editorial agenda of The Spectator's events — selecting the topics that matter, booking the speakers who can truly deliver, and ensuring every event is unmistakably Spectator.

This role sits at the centre of our events programme: you will decide what we cover, who we hear from, and how we frame each event to ensure it reflects the sharpness, independence and authority of the Spectator brand.

Key responsibilities:

  • Research and develop event topics and formats across politics, current affairs, culture, economics and public debate
  • Identify, approach and secure appropriate speakers, panellists, interviewees and chairs
  • Prepare speaker briefing notes and supporting materials
  • Work closely with editorial, commercial, and marketing teams to ensure events are positioned, promoted and framed effectively
  • Ensure every event delivers high-quality editorial value and reinforces The Spectator's brand and reputation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with speakers, public figures, commentators and stakeholders

Requirements

  • Strong interest in politics, current affairs, media and public debate
  • Excellent editorial judgement and a strong instinct for what makes a compelling conversation
  • Ability to secure high-profile speakers and build new relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organised, self-starting and able to work independently
  • Previous experience in journalism, media, publishing or event content production highly desirable

Benefits

  • Salary dependent on experience
  • 5% Employer Contribution Pension Scheme
  • Generous Holiday Allowance with 25 days holiday per calendar year + birthday holiday bonus + Bank Holiday Leave
  • All staff receive generous discounts at our Company restaurant, as well as free breakfast and fruit
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Interest free season ticket loan
