Job summary

St Albans School in St Albans is seeking a reliable Late Porter to join the Estates team. The role covers afternoons and evenings (3pm–midnight), with duties spanning portering, security, and caretaking to uphold the School’s high standards.

The successful candidate will manage access, monitor alarms/CCTV, and assist with pupil departures and transport coordination, deliveries, and event preparations. Prior experience is helpful but not essential.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and customer service skills, with good literacy and numeracy.
• Basic IT skills are required.
• Previous caretaking/portering or security experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the security of School buildings and grounds: lock/unlock facilities, monitor alarms and CCTV, control access, and patrol regularly.
• Support safe departure of pupils at the end of the day; liaise with transport providers; arrange safe travel home for pupils needing alternative transport.
• Receive and distribute deliveries; prepare facilities for events and functions; maintain cleanliness and presentation of key areas.
• Support contractors, visitors, pupils and staff as required.
