Job summary

Toot Hill School is recruiting a Cleaner to join our facilities team. The role involves delivering daily cleaning in classrooms, corridors, toilets and offices, with tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting and waste disposal. You will work as part of a busy team during term-time, with hours spread across 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

Hours are 15 per week, with hours to be agreed at interview. The closing date for applications is 30 October 2026 at 9am.

Qualifications

• Experience in general cleaning in classrooms and common areas.
• Ability to follow health and safety guidelines.
• Safer handling of cleaning chemicals and waste.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team in a busy environment to carry out daily cleaning in classrooms, halls, toilets, offices and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, dust and vacuum floors; clean and sanitise toilets, sinks and high-touch surfaces.
• Manage waste: empty bins, collect waste and dispose of potentially contaminated materials.
• Report maintenance or safety issues to ensure timely repairs and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Maintain cleaning tools and equipment, ensure they are in good condition and report malfunctions.
• Follow correct working practices with equipment and materials and COSHH regulations to safeguard others.
• Ensure safeguarding policies are followed as part of staff responsibilities.

Salary: Scale 1 Point 3 (£9,373 actual per year, which is £13.28 per hour)

Contract: Permanent, part time, term time + 2 weeks (41 weeks per year)

Your main responsibilities within this role will be:

• To work as part of a team, in a busy environment, undertaking general cleaning duties, including daily cleaning tasks in classrooms, hallways, toilets, offices and common areas.
• Duties will include sweeping, mopping, dusting and vacuuming floors as well as cleaning and sanitising toilets, sinks and other high-touch surfaces to prevent the spread of germs.
• Waste management including emptying waste bins, collecting waste and ensuring proper disposal of potentially contaminated materials.
• Reporting any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel to ensure timely repairs and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Maintaining cleaning tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and reporting any malfunctions.
• Following correct working practices in use of equipment and materials and adopting safe working practices to safeguard the safety of others as well as oneself, including COSHH regulations.
• All staff will ensure the safeguarding of young people by the implementation of Child Protection and other safeguarding policies.
