Job summary

Six Ventures Ltd invites applications for a Mechanical Estimator to join our growing regional team in Leeds. The role focuses on producing accurate, competitive estimates for commercial mechanical services, including HVAC, plumbing and ventilation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical projects (HVAC, plumbing, heating, ventilation).
• Review tender documents, drawings and project requirements.
• Carry out quantity take-offs from engineering drawings.
• Calculate costs for labour, materials, plant and subcontractors.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations and preliminaries.
• Identify risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities in tenders.
• Produce tender submissions using estimating software and Excel.
• Maintain estimating records and cost breakdowns for handovers to projects.

Mechanical Estimator

The Opportunity

We are working with a growing engineering business specialising in commercial mechanical building services, who are looking to recruit an experienced Estimator to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in mechanical building services, M&E or HVAC estimating who is looking to play an important role in pricing and securing a varied range of commercial projects.

Working closely with the Head of Estimating and wider engineering and project teams, you will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive and commercially viable estimates, ensuring all aspects of a project are properly costed before submission.

The role would suit someone with strong mechanical knowledge, good commercial awareness and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing detailed cost estimates for commercial mechanical-services projects, including plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
• Reviewing tender documentation, technical drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Carrying out accurate quantity take-offs from engineering drawings.
• Calculating costs for labour, materials, plant, subcontractors and project preliminaries.
• Obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Identifying project risks, exclusions, assumptions and potential commercial opportunities.
• Producing clear and accurate tender submissions using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Maintaining organised estimating records, cost breakdowns and supplier information.
• Supporting tender reviews and ensuring effective handovers to project delivery teams.
• Liaising with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal engineering colleagues.
• Carrying out site surveys where required to assess project scope and existing building services.

About You

We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience in mechanical estimating or a closely related building services environment.

You will ideally have:

• Previous estimating experience within commercial mechanical services, M&E, HVAC or building services.
• A good understanding of plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
• The ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Experience completing quantity take-offs and preparing detailed cost estimates.
• Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of labour, material, plant costs and project margins.
• Confidence using estimating software, Microsoft Excel and other standard IT applications.
• Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
• The ability to manage multiple tenders and work to deadlines.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
