Job summary

BBS Recruitment is recruiting a Ground Maintenance Operative for a client based in Croydon. The role covers cleaning, gardening, and minor maintenance to keep communal areas safe and attractive.

You will work as part of the Estate Services team, delivering high standards of cleanliness, small repairs, and proactive safety checks while supporting residents and contractors. A UK driving licence is essential, and you will operate various cleaning and gardening equipment.

Qualifications

• Good practical skills to carry out a wide range of tasks.
• Experience of working in small teams.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of health and safety considerations.
• Excellent communication skills, clear and written reports to customers, contractors and team members.
• Ability to use a smartphone to access company emails and log repair and health & safety issues.
• Able to work alone and as part of a team with a can-do attitude.
• Must hold full UK Driving License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in communal areas and shared facilities.
• Carry out routine cleaning duties (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, etc.).
• Clean and maintain refuse chutes, bin stores, and external waste facilities.
• Operate cleaning equipment and machinery after training.
• Undertake gardening and grounds maintenance to keep estates tidy and safe.
• Mow grass, trim hedges, prune shrubs, weed beds, water plants, and manage landscapes.
• Plant seasonal flowers and bedding plants where required.
• Remove garden waste and environmental hazards from external areas.
• Carry out minor repairs and basic joinery, plumbing repairs, and decorating as instructed.
• Inspect areas, report defects, and maintain records and health & safety checks.
• Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and vehicles and store materials securely.
• Provide flexible cover and assist colleagues during busy periods.
• Act as first point of contact for residents, contractors, and visitors.
