Job summary

Islington Council is seeking a caretaker to perform estate duties, maintain cleanliness, and support residents across assigned patches. The role involves liaising with the Estate Services Co-ordinator and QAOs, keeping records, reporting incidents, and assisting with repairs and safety tasks.

You will also manage stores and equipment, supervise cleaning frequencies, and work in pairs for annual leave cover. Weekend duties may apply on a rota basis in line with service commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Estate Services Co-ordinator (ESC) and QAOs, assisting with caretaker management.
  • Completing daily management control information and documentation.
  • Maintaining records of tenant complaints and reporting incidents (fire, burglary, flood) to Area Office.
  • Reporting tenancy contraventions by tenants.
  • Noting abandoned vehicles or illegal parking and liaising with Estate Service Officers and contractors.
  • Maintaining lighting in communal areas.
  • Taking action for repairs or emergencies, including calling emergency services during work hours.
  • Maintaining clean and tidy lodges at assigned patches.
  • Overseeing estate stores, tools, and equipment at the patch.
  • Carrying out minor repairs to communal areas as directed in Health & Safety requirements.
  • Reporting and removing graffiti within agreed timescales.
  • Controlling weed growth and sweeping to keep hard-standing areas clear of detritus.
  • Keeping shrub beds and lawns free of litter.
  • Building good relations with tenants, advising especially older people and the disabled.
  • Attending the Area Office during weekday on-duty periods as directed.
  • Reporting and removing lumber to designated collection points daily.
  • Carrying out estate cleaning frequencies as required.
  • Carrying out paired working arrangements with an assigned colleague for annual leave and absence cover.
  • Working on weekends on a rota to cover core duties between 8.00am and 4.00pm.
  • Ensuring services are provided in line with Islington Council’s customer care standards.
  • Carrying out liaison duties including refuse collection and gas/electrical services.
  • Upholding Islington Council’s Equal Opportunity Employment Policy.
  • Undertaking other minor duties as directed.
  • Promoting safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and reporting concerns to a Team Leader.
