Job summary

The National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty seeks an experienced Buildings Supervisor to organise and manage maintenance across the South Downs, including Let Estate buildings at Slindon Estate, Petworth, and Saddlescombe Farm.

This permanent, full‑time role involves coordinating external contractors, delivering refurbishments and repairs to budget, ensuring compliance with building legislation and conservation requirements, and providing strong tenant liaison.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of buildings pathology with recommendations for remedial works.
• Strong communication with contractors, tenants and colleagues.
• Solid understanding of construction legislation and risk management.
• Awareness of restrictions on works to Listed Buildings and ecological considerations.
• Proficiency with standard software and a bespoke property management system.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day maintenance and repair of Let Estate buildings across the South Downs.
• Manage planned repairs, cottage refurbishments and village-wide works within budget.
• Coordinate external contractors and manage project delivery timelines and costs.
• Liaise with tenants, Lettings Officer and Estate Managers to ensure smooth operations.
• Monitor risk and compliance, including budget control and reporting.
