Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking an ESME Application Engineer to join our engineering team in Ipswich. You will help design, optimize, and document the manufacturing processes for Energy Store components and enclosures, focusing on safety, quality, and Built-In Quality.

You will work with cross-functional teams, apply CAD tools, program robots, and contribute to process improvements in a high-performance automotive environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• 2+ years of relevant industry experience in battery pack assembly engineering.
• Experience programming industrial robots.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or similar).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Self-driven with a demonstrated ability to lead projects independently.
• Experience in automotive, aerospace, motorsport, or other high-performance industries is a strong plus but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and optimization of the manufacturing process of the Energy Store (ES) and Energy Store Main Enclosure (ESME).
• Design and analyze production processes to ensure personnel safety at all times.
• Work with the Quality Department to develop in-process and end-of-line quality procedures for various assembly processes including equipment planning, evaluation, and selection.
• Actively contribute to the design process of the ES and ESME to achieve Built-In Quality.
• Conduct root cause analysis for problems found during the build and document learnings.
• Create and maintain manufacturing operation work instructions.
• Document and communicate assembly process developments and innovations clearly.
• Collaborate with the ERS Assembly Manager and High Voltage Safety Supervisor to ensure safety and quality standards.
