Job description

As an Escalator Technical Specialist, you'll provide expert technical support across Schindler's UK business, acting as a senior escalation point for complex escalator issues across installation, modernisation, repair and service activities. Working closely with field engineers, operational teams, project teams, customers and technical specialists, you'll help resolve complex faults, support major projects and commissioning activity, improve equipment reliability and share technical expertise across the business. This is a national field-based role involving regular travel to customer sites across the UK, including overnight stays where required.

Your main responsibilities
  • Providing advanced technical support across escalator new installations, existing equipment, modernisation, repair and service activities
  • Acting as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues, supporting field engineers with fault‑finding, diagnostics and on‑site investigations where required
  • Carrying out safety, quality and acceptance inspections on new installation and modernisation projects in line with Schindler standards
  • Providing hands‑on technical support during complex commissioning, start‑up, testing and equipment handover activities
  • Working with Service Leaders, Installation Managers and operational teams to improve equipment reliability, availability and performance, including resolving recurring or difficult faults
  • Providing specialist technical input into complex tenders, project planning, technical proposals and customer discussions
  • Conducting site surveys, measurements and technical assessments, including reviewing specifications and requirements to support installation, modernisation and project deliver
  • Working with UK and international engineering, manufacturing, design and quality teams to investigate and resolve specialist technical issues
  • Supporting product evaluations, new product introductions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Sharing technical knowledge through coaching, mentoring and training support for engineers and operational teams
  • Producing clear technical reports, findings and recommendations to support operational, project and technical decision-making
Qualifications and experience
  • Demonstrable technical expertise in escalator systems, products and technologies
  • Strong practical experience within escalator installation, modernisation, service, repair or maintenance environments
  • Advanced fault‑finding, troubleshooting and diagnostic capability across mechanical and electrical escalator systems
  • Broad knowledge of escalator equipment, including experience working across different products, manufacturers or system interfaces
  • Experience providing advanced technical support within a field‑based engineering environment
  • Experience conducting escalator safety, quality, commissioning or acceptance inspections
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and develop effective solutions
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to engineers, customers and other stakeholders
  • Experience producing technical reports, findings and recommendations
  • A strong commitment to safety, quality, customer service and operational performance
  • A full driving licence valid for use in the UK
  • Ability to travel regularly across the UK and stay away from home where required by the role
Desirable
  • Experience coaching, mentoring or delivering technical training to engineers
  • NVQ Level 4 or an equivalent advanced technical qualification
  • Experience supporting complex escalator modernisation, installation or commissioning projects
  • Experience working with formal equipment acceptance, inspection or quality standards Knowledge of Schindler escalator products, systems or acceptance inspection standards
