This Equine Yard Technician role at BCA involves working 16 hours per week on Fridays and Saturdays only on an all-year round basis. This position is on Scale G of the Support Staff pay scale; offering a salary between G17 £11,019.68 and G19 £11,798.49 (G17 £25,483 up to G19 £27,284 FTE).
The role of an Equine Yard Technician combines direct horse care with practical instructional support for students. Key responsibilities include maintaining exceptional standards of horse welfare, overseeing daily stable routines, exercising horses, and identifying veterinary or farrier requirements. Alongside animal care, the post holder actively supports student learning by demonstrating core techniques, supervising practical yard sessions, assisting special needs groups, and preparing equipment for daily lessons across the Equestrian Centre.
In addition to routine care and teaching, the role involves managing yard resources, operating college vehicles and tractors, maintaining equipment, and executing risk assessments to ensure a safe, clean environment. Suitable candidates will hold a Level 3 qualification in an equine subject alongside Level 2 English and Maths, supported by practical experience handling a range of horses. Solid administrative skills, IT proficiency, flexibility, and a strong commitment to student safeguarding and inclusive teaching are essential for this position.
