Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking patient, experienced EOTAS tutors to provide personalised one-to-one educational support across Somerset. You will help learners who may have struggled to access mainstream education, focusing on Maths, Science and English as needed.

The role requires adapting teaching styles to individual needs, supporting learners with SEND/SEMH, and helping rebuild confidence and engagement in education. This is an in-person role, with safeguarding at the forefront.

Qualifications

• Strong subject knowledge in Maths, Science or English.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND/SEMH is highly desirable.
• Ability to adapt teaching to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalised one-to-one tuition to learners accessing EOTAS provision.
• Support Maths, Science and/or English based on subject knowledge and experience.
• Plan engaging, accessible lessons and adapt pace and resources to individual needs.
• Identify gaps and provide targeted support to improve understanding.
• Prepare learners for GCSEs and assessments where appropriate.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to parents/carers and other professionals.

EOTAS Tutor - Somerset

Quantum Scholars are looking for patient, supportive and experienced EOTAS Tutors to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to young people across Somerset.

We are particularly interested in tutors with strong subject knowledge in Maths, Science and/or English who are confident supporting learners who may have struggled to access mainstream education.

The successful tutor will be able to adapt their teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual needs, abilities and interests. The role will focus not only on academic progress but also on helping young people rebuild confidence, develop positive attitudes towards learning and re-engage with education.

Experience supporting learners with SEND, SEMH, school avoidance, anxiety, challenging behaviour or other barriers to mainstream education would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

• Providing personalised one-to-one tuition to young people accessing EOTAS provision.
• Supporting Maths, Science and/or English, depending on the tutor's subject knowledge and experience.
• Supporting learners across primary and secondary levels, including GCSE where appropriate.
• Planning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging lessons.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and pace to suit individual learning needs.
• Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support.
• Supporting Maths skills including number, algebra, problem solving, reasoning and mathematical confidence.
• Supporting Science across Biology, Chemistry and Physics where appropriate.
• Supporting English skills including reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
• Preparing learners for GCSEs, exams and assessments where appropriate.
• Using the learner's interests to encourage engagement and participation.
• Supporting young people who may have experienced difficulties or barriers within mainstream education.
• Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Helping learners develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Encouraging positive attitudes towards education and learning.
• Supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Working collaboratively with families and other members of the learner's support team.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements

• Strong subject knowledge in at least one of Maths, Science or English.
• Ability to support learners across the appropriate primary or secondary curriculum.
• Experience working with children or young people in an educational, tutoring, EOTAS, AP or similar setting.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs is highly desirable.
• Understanding of the barriers some young people may face when accessing mainstream education.
• Experience providing one-to-one support is desirable.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.
• A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant or disengaged from education.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Reliable and consistent approach to work.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
