Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a senior Environmental Sustainability Lead to embed sustainable practices across a major construction project. You will guide teams, oversee compliance, liaise with regulators and stakeholders, and drive environmental performance from planning through delivery.

You will mentor specialist and contractor staff, contribute to risk management, and report on environmental KPIs while shaping governance and strategic direction for the project.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of environment management in construction or operational environments.
• Professional membership in IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify and manage environmental risks & opportunities.
• Provide strategic environmental / sustainability expertise across project lifecycle.
• Oversee environmental compliance and management system.
• Oversee planned and unplanned inspections.
• Provide environmental guidance and training for operational and supply chain teams.
• Investigate environmental incidents.
• Liaise with clients, regulators and external stakeholders.
• Report against environmental KPIs.
• Strategic planning / governance.
• Collaborate with wider team.
• Manage others / plan resourcing.
