Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Advisor - Regional Carbon Advisor for the East & West Midlands. You will lead carbon baselining, data collection and reporting across lifecycle stages to support carbon budgets and PAS 2080 compliance based targets.

The role involves collaboration with project teams and stakeholders to identify hotspots and drive reductions using appropriate carbon factors and systems such as Moata or Candy.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable industry experience in a technical role on major infrastructure projects.
• Experience in bid, preconstruction or construction delivery phases of large civil projects.
• Commitment to driving carbon management across the business.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work across all levels.

Responsibilities

• Undertake carbon baselining, hotspot identification and reduction target setting on projects to ensure baselines are auditable for PAS 2080 compliance.
• Collate carbon data from in-flight projects by engaging with procurement, commercial, design, environmental and project management teams.
• Provide carbon analysis to preconstruction and delivery teams to identify hotspots and support reductions.
• Support development and continual improvement of the Carbon Management System processes.
• Develop and implement Carbon Management Plans with project teams to drive reductions.
• Utilise Moata or similar for carbon reporting to clients.

Environmental Sustainability Advisor- Regional Carbon Advisor E&W Midlands

This important role supports Balfour Beatty’s Sustainability Strategy and is key to delivering company and client carbon reduction targets.

The role is to deliver carbon quantification and reporting across the lifecycle of our projects, in one of our PT&D regions supporting carbon reduction targets and carbon budgets.

Ensure carbon data is structured in preconstruction and delivery in a way that facilitates
collection and aggregation of consistent, comparable and meaningful data for reporting and future benchmarking. Support and drive innovation at a regional and project level to meet our carbon commitments.

What you'll be doing

• Undertake carbon baselining, hotspot identification and reduction target setting on projects to ensure carbon assessments are complete, use tailored carbon factors where available, and are auditable for PAS 2080 compliance.
• Collate actual carbon data from in-flight projects by working with a range of stakeholders within project teams, including but not limited to: Procurement, commercial, design, environmental, sustainability and project management.
• Provide carbon analysis from Candy or support others to do so, to provide preconstruction and delivery teams with understanding of hotspots and focus for carbon reductions.
• Support the development and continual improvement of processes of the Carbon Management System as necessary.
• Develop and implement Carbon Management Plans, in collaboration with project teams, to drive carbon reductions.
• Utilise Moata or similar, for carbon reporting to the client.

Who we're looking for

• Demonstrable industry experience in a technical role (engineering / commercial) on a range of major infrastructure / civil engineering projects with a good understanding of construction methods, processes and temporary works.
• Experience of bid, preconstruction or construction delivery phases of projects incorporating major, complex civil engineering.
• The commitment to help drive change and carbon management capability across the business.
• Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels in the business.
• Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Some experience of engineering or commercial processes, supporting multi-level projects and programmes
