Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our environment team co‑located across the UK, supporting a regional team of design and operation staff.

You will identify environmental risks, coordinate inputs, deliver environmental deliverables including permits, and liaise with regulators to ensure compliant project delivery and positive client relationships. Travel to sites is required; Chartered status is preferred.

Qualifications

• Chartered with a relevant professional body or actively working towards chartership.
• Understanding of environmental disciplines and project risks in ecology, archaeology, drainage, geotechnical, contaminated land, landscape, noise.
• Awareness of the planning process (water sector), including permits and consents for construction activities.
• Coordinate environmental aspects through planning, organisation and communication to ensure project outcomes.
• Experience advising on project sustainability initiatives, including biodiversity net gain.
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
• Methodical approach to problem solving.
• Proactive and pragmatic approach.
• Proficient in delivering results within short timeframes, prioritising tasks.
• A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Identify specific environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle from feasibility through to completion.
• Support project teams to develop environmental risk mitigation measures with regard to cost, time, compliance, safety and social impacts.
• Identify, plan and coordinate inputs (heritage, archaeology, ecology, geomorphology) to meet standards and timings.
• Produce environmental deliverables at milestones (e.g. EIA screening, material management plans, environmental management plans).
• Produce applications for environmental permits and consents.
• Lead liaison with environmental regulators.
• Engage with clients on environmental and consenting matters and develop relationships.
• Contribute to environmental improvement projects at local and regional levels.
• Assist in production and delivery of training.
